U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs bled $3.45 billion across 11 consecutive sessions through Monday, the longest redemption streak since the January 2024 launch. The latest session alone logged $484 million in withdrawals as BTC slid toward $70,000. Meanwhile Nvidia rallied 6 percent and AI equities continued their run, indicating institutional capital is rotating out of crypto and into the growth-equity rally. MicroStrategy's sale of 32 BTC last week, its first disposal since 2022, adds weight to the thesis that the treasury-buyer cohort that powered the 2024-2025 rally is stepping back.
The transmission mechanism is capital rotation, not macro shock. ETF outflows drain the most direct institutional entry point for BTC exposure, removing the structural bid that absorbed selling through the first quarter. When that bid disappears and equities offer momentum, marginal buyers shift allocation. Funding on Binance BTC perps sits at +0.9 basis points per 8 hours against a 30-day average of flat, showing leveraged longs are still paying to stay in but the premium is thin. Fear and Greed at 23 versus a 30-day average of 34 confirms sentiment has deteriorated sharply. This is not panic liquidation, it is orderly exit by funds that see better risk-adjusted returns elsewhere.
Short BTC on a 48-hour horizon. The 11-session streak suggests the rotation is not done, and there is no technical or flow catalyst to reverse it in the near term. Enter short below $70,500 if the next session logs further outflows or if BTC fails to reclaim $71,000 by Wednesday's close. Size conservatively given that funding remains positive, indicating some leveraged buyers are still committed.
Invalidation is a clean reversal in ETF flows or a sharp equity correction that sends safe-haven bids back toward BTC. If Wednesday's ETF data shows net inflows above $100 million, exit immediately. A funding flip to negative would signal short positioning has become crowded and squeeze risk is material.
Watch Wednesday's ETF flow release and Nvidia's trajectory through the rest of the week. If AI equities stall and ETF outflows slow simultaneously, that is the signal the rotation trade is exhausted and BTC can find a floor. Until then, the path of least resistance is lower.
